Setting out aboard the Pan Am Clipper, the Isle de France, or the 20th Century Limited? Then here’s the watch for you! Rare, Impressive, and quite possibly One of a Kind.
Excellent condition overall, showing signs of occasional wear. Runs and keeps excellent time. This is an amazing combination of a lapel (or chatelaine or lavalier) watch, and a bedside travel clock/watch. Created in the skyscraper Art Deco style by the famous Swiss watch company: Wyler Watch Co. This gorgeous heirloom timepiece dates from the late 1920’s or early 1930’s. The watch features a 15 jewel, Swiss made EARLY sweep seconds movement.
AWESOME ORIGINAL DIAL…! Notice the handsome, crisp original dial with chrome ring embellished full chapter ring, blued steel baton hands and blued steel sweep seconds hand. The back is a skeleton back, or exhibition cased watch.
The high quality wind-up mechanical movement is signed: 15 jewels, Wyler Watch Co. Unadjusted RXA
The initials “NLP” appear twice on front of case, the meaning of which has been lost to history. One admirer has wondered aloud if this unique watch had once belonged to the eminent American astronomer Newton Lacy Pierce (1905-1950), the Princeton University professor and expert in marine and air navigation. Considering the high quality, intricacy, and precision of this Wyler watch, it is quite possible.
This is the only watch of this design that we’ve ever seen. This rare luxury item would have been given as a very special “bibelot” – a small object of curiosity, beauty, or rarity. It can serve that exact purpose again, for you. No one you know has a watch like this one. Please “zoom” the photos to view this superb watch in greater detail.
Paul Wyler was born in 1896 and established his deservedly celebrated Swiss watch company, Wyler Watch, in 1924. Wyler presented its first 16 and 19-line precision movements to the public in 1927. Their legendary INCAFLEX balance wheel is protected along its diameter by two curved, elastic arms, to absorb any shocks to the balance wheel.
