A high quality men’s wristwatch from Wittnauer by Longines. The watch has a square face with raised yellow gold bars for the chapters and a sunken subsidiary seconds dial at the six o’clock position. Best of all is the highly-desirable rectangular fancy 10K yellow gold filled case. Movement is signed: AXA / WITTNAUER WATCH CO. / 9WN / SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS / UNADJUSTED. Back of case is signed: WITTNAUER NEW YORK GENEVA MONTREAL / WADSWORTH 10K GOLD FILLED. Furnished with a handsome vintage 14k gold filled Kreisler band.

Albert Wittnauer came to America from Switzerland in 1872. He was 16 and already knew watchmaking. He joined his brother-in-law J. Eugene Robert’s watch importing business. Soon two of Wittnauer’s younger brothers and his sister arrived in New York, forming what became the Wittnauer company. Robert was already importing watches. Eventually they added a Wittnauer brand to their company’s lines.
