Oris Watch Company’s “Novoris” Watch with Splendid Lug Adapters

unnamed[2] (2)What a handsome Art Deco Swiss Watch this Novoris Watch is!  It is bold and unusual – just the kind of watch that serious vintage watch collectors find fascinating.  Made by Oris Watch Company, one can be sure that this watch is not only striking in design, but also of the highest mechanical quality.

This ultra rare Novoris Watch from the Oris Watch Company captures the spirit of 1932-1936 with its amazing Art Deco case and dial. The case is pure nickel chromium front and back. The rectangular case is quite handsome, and while it has surface scratches, the bezel is very shiny and fresh looking. The back has the kind of wear you expect from a nickel chromium case of this era.  The dial is a nice golden tone, with Arabic hour markers, a full railroad track minutes ring on the edge of the dial and a nicely delineated sub seconds dial. The hands are blued steel. The dial is signed Novoris, Swiss Made.

This particular watch also is furnished with the most interesting lug adapters we have ever seen.

The watch has fixed lugs, and the most clever adapters we have ever seen in order to allow the use of a standard two piece watch band or standard one piece expansion band, as well as to make the watch a “driver style”, flexible lug watch. I think of it as scarce and unusual, and while I have not used the word “unique”, I have not seen another adapter design like this, and would very much like to know who made and marketed it. It adds the features of ingenuity and élan to what is already a very distinctive Swiss watch.

That’s something you don’t see every day.
